Instrumentals, songs, a chiptune musical and house music
On Spotify, as Alexandra Skevington, I’ve begun to release a growing catalogue of compositions including several neoclassical and light jazz works for solo piano alongside electronic music from a chiptune musical. I am in the process of compiling a collection of my film music instrumentals.
I started out as Red As Ruby, trying to work out my style and releasing songs influenced by pop, jazz, folk, ambient and house including ‘Something Else’, finalist in Eon One-Take’s songwriting competition.
I have also released house music as lady sar5by.
You can also find and stream my work on Amazon, Apple, Deezer, Google Play, iTunes, Pandora, Soundcloud, Tidal, YouTube and other platforms including Bandcamp (Alexandra Skevington, Red As Ruby, ladysar5by).
Thanks for listening and supporting me!
About me
Alexandra is an English composer writing music for a variety of musicians and purposes across several genres. Her works are illustrative and emotional with lyrical melodies being a key element. Wanting her music to be useful and accessible as well as enjoyable, she is particularly interested in writing music for education and ensuring that her music makes a positive difference to both listeners and players.
Alexandra’s own musical education focussed on performance. Writing was, if anything, discouraged. Not realising composition could be her career, she left music for several years but continued to write for herself. In 2017, Alexandra began sharing songs and house music under pseudonyms (Red As Ruby, lady sar5by) before finally starting to release instrumental music in her own name.
Some of Alexandra’s string orchestra works were published by Wingert Jones in 2025 and since September 2023, two of her piano pieces have been on Trinity College London’s piano exam syllabus and She has been a finalist in international writing competitions for song writing, film music and instrumental music and her works have been played on BBC Radio 3, BBC Sounds and Radio 1 Czechia.
Alexandra has just completed the ABRSM’s Writing For Education programme where she wrote for the musicians of NOYO and NYJO alongside creating works for instrumental exams. She is now preparing several pieces for publication alongside writing new music for various instruments she’s found in charity shops.
